Baltimore Blast

The Baltimore Blast are coming off a season where they went to the playoffs for the 7th straight year. With the best record through the regular season the Blast found themselves sitting 17-3. After advancing out of the MISL semi finals the Blast came up just short in the championship round as they went 3-3 in the playoffs and the Missouri Comets won the MISL championship.

A big part to last season’s success was the play of the Blast defense. Baltimore only allowed 101 points against on the season which was 102 points better than the closest team. This season the defense will be anchored by veteran Pat Healey and goalkeeper William Vanzela. Pat Healey ranked second in the league in blocks last season with 31 and also was top 10 in the league in assists. Goalie William Vanzela backed up his rookie season with even better numbers leading the MISL is points allowed, save percentage, and wins. To compliment the strong defense the Blast return Tony Donatelli (48) and Max Ferdinand (43) who both ranked top 15 in points last season.

Following the season two Blast players were honored by the MISL. William Vanzela was named to first team All MISL and Diego Zuniga was a member of the MISL All Rookie Team. Both players will be back in action for 2014.

The Blast celebrated the teams historic 30th season in 2009-10 and is proud to keep the tradition going for the 35th season. The Blast played its first ever game in Baltimore on November 29th, 1980 in the then Civic Center (now Royal Farms Arena). The team defeated Philadelphia, 10-7, that night to kick off what has become 35 years of professional indoor soccer in Baltimore. No other city in the United States has had a professional soccer team for 30+ consecutive years.
