Information about the GAMBER/SMALLWOOD OPTIMIST CLUB of Westminster Mustang Football Program

  • The Club's teams are members of the Mountain Valley Youth Football League. The areas participating are: Boonsboro, Brunswick, Catoctin, Francis Scott Key, Frederick, Gamber, Linganore, Middletown, Mt. Airy, Oakdale, Smithsburg, South Hagerstown, Spring Mills, Tuscarora, Urbana, and Walkersville.
  • The Gamber/Smallwood Optimist Club of Westminster teams play home games at Deer Park.
  • Gamber/Smallwood of Westminster mini camp will begins on Saturday, July 21st from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and continues on Monday, July 23rd, Tuesday, July 24th, and Thursday, July 26th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Deer Park Fields.
  • Practice begins in pads on Saturday, July 28th at 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM. Practices will be as follows until school starts:
    Saturdays - 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM (times may change due to scrimmages, weigh ins, etc.)
  • Players can wear sneakers, tennis shoes, or rubber cleated shoes only. No metal cleated or spiked shoes allowed.
  • MANDATORY WEIGH IN-INS are on Saturday, August 18th at Urbana High School (Time TBD)
  • The season begins on the weekend of August 25th, and the regular season play ends the weekend of October 20th.
  • There is post season play for eligible teams.

THERE ARE FIVE LEVELS OF PLAY

PONY WEIGHT LIMIT
Flag (6 yrs. and under.) 85 lbs. or less
Developmental (8 yrs. and under) 105 lbs. or less
10 yrs. or younger 130 lbs.
 
JUNIOR VARSITY WEIGHT LIMIT
11 / 12 yrs. 145 lbs.
 
VARSITY WEIGHT LIMIT
13 year old skilled position 150 lbs. or less
14 year old skilled position 135 lbs. or less
13 and 14 year olds all other positions unlimited

NO ONE ABOVE THE 8th GRADE CAN PARTICIPATE.

*There is a weigh-in prior to the seasons' first game and a mid-season weigh-in to determine continued eligibility. An ineligible player will be dropped from the playing roster.

* A copy of the player's birth certificate or baptismal certificate must be provided on or before August 15th. Age is based on a September 1st birth date of the current playing season.

DRAW AREA

Football players must be in one of the following Draw Areas:

  • Sandymount Elementary
  • Westminster High School
  • Winters Mill High school

FOOTBALL REGISTRATION FEES

Football Registration fee is $145.00 and includes the use of the following items:

  • Helmet
  • Practice and game pants with pads
  • Shoulder Pads
  • Practice and game jersey
  • (1) Mouth piece
  • $20.00 in 50/50 raffle tickets which will be handed out at time of equipment handouts

Flag Football registration fee is $0.00 and includes the use of the following items:

  • (1) Mouth piece
  • Flags
  • $20.00 in 50/50 raffle tickets which will be handed out on first day of practice

REGISTRATION DISCOUNTS

Register on or before June 15 and the first player receives the following discount:

  • $20.00 for a football player
  • $15.00 for a cheerleader

Mini-Pony K - 2nd
Pony 3rd - 4th
JV 5th - 6th
Varsity 7th - 8th

CHEERLEADING REGISTRATION FEES

The 1st year cheerleader fee is $285.00 and includes the following items:

  • $75.00 Registration fee
  • $10.00 non-refundable deposit for uniform cleaning
  • Use of team uniform
  • White Shirt (to Keep)
  • Bloomers (to keep)
  • Socks (to keep)
  • Cheer Shoes (to Keep)
  • Team Bow (to keep)
  • Breast Cancer Bow (to Keep)
  • Sweat Suite w/ name (to keep)
  • Cheer bag w/ name (to keep)
  • Gloves (to keep)
  • $20.00 in 50/50 raffle tickets which will be handed out on sizing date

2nd year-plus cheerleader fee is $130.00 and includes the following:

  • $75.00 registration fee
  • $10.00 non-refundable deposit for uniform cleaning
  • Use of team uniform
  • Shoes (to keep)
  • Team bow (to keep)
  • Breast cancer bow (to keep)
  • $20.00 in 50/50 raffle tickets which will be handed out at time of sizing

REPLACEMENT PIECES FOR CHEERLEADER

If a returning cheerleader needs to replace items due to size change or lost item, the cheerleader may purchase them during the registration process:

  • White Shirt - $30.00
  • Bloomers - $10.00
  • Socks - $ 3.00
  • Sweat Suit - $85.00
  • Cheer Bag - $25.00
  • Gloves - $2.00

Refund Policy

All refund requests will be dispositioned on a case by case basis. Should any refund be issued, a $10.00 administrative fee will be assessed to cover non-refundable fees incurred by the program. Refund requests will not be granted after August 15, 2017.
